Many other awards have followed and we have been reliably informed that had we not missed the deadline for submitting samples in 1998, we could have added another first prize to the impressive list. In all the years we have been making organic cider and apple juice, we have taken perhaps the greatest pride in helping to keep a number of small local orchards from being pulled up. Although we are very small compared to most fruit processors, we have always made it our policy to buy English apples and pears rather than imported fruit or concentrates. When fruit was in short supply in 1997, we even took on the responsibility for an extra 6 acres of established organic orchard in order to prevent the trees from being grubbed up. |
